The following graphic shows the updated user interface for Mac OS X versions, beginning with LicenseControl version 2.00, aka 1.64 (see the LicenseControl History for more information).
Note that the terminology has also changed:
- Install is now Activate
- Relinquish is now De-Activate
- Retrieve and Install is now Re-Activate
The documentation on this web page does not use this updated terminology.
Licensing a product requires that a License Request be generated and submitted to obtain a License which is then installed. This process is completed automatically, via the Internet. To license a product (press the More Information button for an explanation of the re-licensing concept):
Option 1 : Supply Your License ID and Press the "Install a License" Button
If this is the initial licensing of this application, you'll need to use this option:
- License ID: If a system-based copy is available (e.g., via the Kagi email from a purchase), the easiest way to do this is via regular copy and paste methods. If the License ID is entered manually, please be sure to capture every character, including spaces, as each is significant and required. Note that the License ID is equivalent to a password to your License and should be guarded accordingly.
- Install a License: Optionally, this will present a Software License Agreement for acceptance, then will communicate with the licensing server to obtain your license. Once obtained, the license will automatically be installed. When the licensing process has been completed, the License Status and Expiry Date items are updated. The Progress Status indicates progress during the licensing activity. The entire process should only take a number of seconds to complete.
We have provided detailed information about the content of the Re/License Request, along with instructions for capturing and verifying what's actually communicated to the licensing server.
Option 2 : Press the "Retrieve and Install an Existing License" (or "Reinstall an Existing License") Button
If this application (or another license-compatible application) was previously licensed on this system, you can use this option, for convenience. In this case, you won't need to supply your License ID.
- Retrieve and Install an Existing License (or "Reinstall an Existing License"): Optionally, this will present a Software License Agreement for acceptance, then will communicate with the licensing server to obtain your license. Once obtained, the license will automatically be installed. When the licensing process has been completed, the License Status and Expiry Date items are updated. The Progress Status indicates progress during the licensing activity. The entire process should only take a number of seconds to complete.
